For Indians Moving From India

After receiving an admission offer, you will receive a Form I-20 from your university. You must then pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, complete the DS-160 online visa application, and schedule a visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in India. Demonstrate strong ties to India and show sufficient financial support to cover your first year of expenses.

For Indians Already in the US

If you are in the U.S. on another dependent visa (such as H-4 or L-2) and wish to transition to F-1 to gain access to OPT work authorization, you can file an I-539 Change of Status with USCIS or travel back to India for consular processing.
